In this article, the author investigates additive actions on toric projective hypersurfaces. An algebraic variety \(X\) of dimension \(n\) over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero admits an additive action if there is a regular action of the commutative unipotent group \(\mathbb{G}_a^n =\mathbb{G}_a \times \cdots \times \mathbb{G}_a \) on \(X\) with an open orbit. Motivations of the study of such actions came from problems in arithmetic geometry [\textit{A. Chambert-Loir} and \textit{Y. Tschinkel}, Invent. Math. 148, No. 2, 421--452 (2002; Zbl 1067.11036)]. It is known that a toric variety is projective if its fan is the normal fan of some convex polytope. In [\textit{I. Arzhantsev} and \textit{E. Romaskevich}, Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 145, No. 5, 1865--1879 (2017; Zbl 1375.14155)], the authors have characterized polytopes corresponding to projective toric varieties which admit an additive action. On the other hand, there is a combinatorial criterion on the polytopes associated to projective toric varieties which can be represented as projective hypersurfaces. Using these two results, in this article under review, the author has shown that for each dimension bigger than one, only toric projective hypersurfaces other than projective spaces are quadrics of rank \(3\) and \(4\). The automorphism groups of these toric projective hypersurfaces are described. The author has determined the number of additive actions on the quadrics of rank \(3\) and \(4\), when the dimension is equal to two, three and four.
