According to \textit{D. Mond} [Lect. Notes Math. None, 221--234 (1991; Zbl 0745.32020)] the image of a stable perturbation of an analytic finitely determined map-germ \(f:(\mathbb C^n, 0)\to (\mathbb C^{n+1}, 0)\) has the homotopy type of a wedge of spheres of dimension \(n.\) Mond called the number of the spheres in the wedge the image Milnor number \(\mu_I\) of \(f.\) For \(f:(\mathbb C^2, 0)\to (\mathbb C^3, 0)\) weighted-homogeneous, \textit{D. Mond} [Q. J. Math., Oxf. II. Ser. 42, No. 167, 335--345 (1991; Zbl 0764.32013)] expresses \(\mu_I\) in terms of the weights and degrees of \(f\). \textit{T. Ohmoto} [Adv. Stud. Pure Math. 68, 191--265 (2016; Zbl 1390.14049)] uses Thom polynomial techniques to compute \(\mu_I\) for weighted-homogeneous map-germs \(f:(\mathbb C^3, 0)\to (\mathbb C^4, 0)\) in terms of weights and degrees. In this attractive paper under review, Irma Pallarés and Guillermo Peñafort Sanchis have generalised Ohmoto's approach to give a formula for \(\mu_I\) as a rational function of weights and degrees, in the case of weighted-homogeneous germs \(f:(\mathbb C^4, 0)\to (\mathbb C^5, 0)\). They use a purely interpolative method to determine the coefficients of the rational function, together with theoretical considerations to bound the degrees of its numerator and denominator.
