For interval maps in the quadratic family \(\{f_t\}\), the authors define the fractional susceptibility function \(\Psi_{\phi,t_0}^\Omega (\eta,z)\) of \(f_t\) associated to a \(C^1\) observable \(\phi\) at a stochastic parameter \(t_0\). They also define the frozen fractional susceptibility function of \((\eta,z)\) which limits to the susceptibility function considered by \textit{D. Ruelle} [Commun. Math. Phys. 258, No. 2, 445--453 (2005; Zbl 1080.37046); Commun. Math. Phys. 287, No. 3, 1039--1070 (2009; Zbl 1202.37008)] as \(\eta\) approaches 1. One of their main results is that if \(t_0\) is Misiurewicz-Thurston (see [\textit{M. Misiurewicz}, Publ. Math., Inst. Hautes Étud. Sci. 53, 17--51 (1981; Zbl 0477.58020)]), then the frozen fractional susceptibility function of \((1/2,z)\) has a pole at \(z=1\) for generic \(\phi\) under the fractional transversality condition. Furthermore, they introduce Whitney-type fractional integrals and derivatives on suitable sets \(\Omega\) and use these to make conjectures about the fractional susceptibility function.
