For a prime number \(p\) and a non-constant polynomial \(f\in {\mathbb Z}[x_1,\dots,x_n]\), the original Igusa zeta function counts the \({\mathbb Z}/(p^{m+1 }{\mathbb Z})\)-points of \(X = \{f = 0 \}\), when \(m\) varies in \({\mathbb N} \), [\textit{J.-i. Igusa}, J. Reine Angew. Math. 268/269, 110--130 (1974; Zbl 0287.43007)]. \textit{J. Denef} and \textit{F. Loeser} [J. Algebr. Geom. 7, No. 3, 505--537 (1998; Zbl 0943.14010)] introduced the ``more general'' motivic Igusa zeta function, \({Z_X}^{mot}(T)\), when \(f\in {\mathbb C}[x_1,\dots,x_n]\) is a complex polynomial and the \( {\mathbb Z}/(p^{m+1}{\mathbb Z})\)-points of \(X = \{f = 0\}\) are replaced by its \({\mathbb C}[t]/(t^{m+1})\)-points. The space \(X_m\) of \({\mathbb C}[t]/(t^{m+1})\)-points of \(X = \{f = 0\}\) has a natural scheme structure and is called the \(m\)th jet scheme of \(X\) . It is known that invariants of the \(X_m\), such as their irreducible components and their dimensions, encode information on the singularities of \(X \) [\textit{H. Mourtada}, Ann. Inst. Fourier 61, No. 6, 2313--2336 (2011; Zbl 1247.14011); Bull. Soc. Math. Fr. 145, No. 2, 237--266 (2017; Zbl 1401.14024); \textit{M. Mustaţă}, J. Am. Math. Soc. 15, No. 3, 599--615 (2002; Zbl 0998.14009)]. The motivic Igusa zeta function \({Z_X}^{mot}(T)\) associated with \(X\), can be written in terms of these jet schemes; it turns out to be a rational function in \(T\) and it is natural to study its poles. In this article, the authors compute the motivic Igusa zeta function for a class of monomial curves that naturally appear as the special fibers of equisingular families of curves whose generic fibers are isomorphic to some irreducible plane germ of a curve. To do this, they determine, for \(m \in {\mathbb N}\), the irreducible components of the jet schemes \(Y_m\) of such a monomial curve \(Y \subset{\mathbb C}^{g+1}\). Then, based on the structure of \(Y_m\), they compute the explicit expression for the motivic Igusa zeta function associated with \(Y\) and provide a complete list of its poles. This result implies in particular that the motivic zeta function of the special fiber \(Y\) of the family has the same number of poles as the motivic zeta function of a generic fiber, while the induced family on the jet schemes was proved to be not flat in most cases, and the motivic zeta function is calculated in terms of the codimensions of the irreducible components of the jet schemes.
