This article can be considered a first step in developing a general equivariant Oka theory without the extra assumption of homogeneity, which is why it is justified to call it a Gromov-style equivariant Oka theory. The main result is as follows: \smallskip Let \(G\) be a reductive complex Lie group, and let \(K\) be a maximal compact subgroup of \(G\). Let \(X\) be a Stein \(G\)-manifold, and \(Y\) a \(G\)-Oka-manifold. Suppose that one the following conditions holds \begin{enumerate} \item \(G\) is finite. \item All the stabilizers of the \(G\)-action on \(X\) are finite. \item \(X\) has single slice type. \end{enumerate} Then every \(K\)-equivariant continuous map \(f \colon X \to Y\) is homotopic, through such maps, to a \(G\)-equivariant holomorphic map. \smallskip The article also contains versions of this theorem with approximation and interpolation. The main result crucially relies on a result of [\textit{P. Heinzner}, Math. Ann. 280, No. 1, 147--160 (1988; Zbl 0617.32022)] about equivariant embeddings of Stein manifolds into \(\mathbb{C}^n\), which requires the slice type to be finite.
