In this paper, the 2-body problem in the sphere \(S^2\) is considered for the study of the stability of the Relative Equilibria (RE). This problem is modeled, firstly, by a Hamiltonian system with 4 degrees of freedom, and the authors reduced the study to a system with 2 degrees of freedom in accordance with the approach of \textit{A. V. Borisov} et al. [Celest. Mech. Dyn. Astron. 130, No. 6, Paper No. 43, 36 p. (2018; Zbl 1396.70011)]. They used theoretical tools and numerical methods, such as normal forms and some nonlinear stability results on Hamiltonian systems in order to demonstrate a series of results that consequences from some open problems of the study of Borisov et al, related to the nonlinear stability of the relative equilibria, where the nonlinear stability was given for the acute-angled RE only in the case of nonresonance. Moreover, the authors studied the existence of Hamiltonian pitchfork bifurcation in the case of first order resonance which satisfied for the case of isosceles right-angled RE, and center-saddle bifurcation for the case of obtuse-angled RE.
