The author constructs several infinite families of hyperbolic links in the 3-sphere that satisfy the Turaev-Viro invariant volume conjecture posed by \textit{Q. Chen} and \textit{T. Yang} [Quantum Topol. 9, No. 3, 419--460 (2018; Zbl 1405.57020)]. He shows that the links considered have complement homeomorphic to the complement of a fundamental shadow link, which, by work of Belletti, Detcherry, Kalfagianni and Yang [\textit{G. Belletti} et al., ``Growth of quantum \(6j\)-symbols and applications to the Volume Conjecture'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1807.03327}, to appear in J. Differ. Geom.] are known to satisfy this conjecture. Other links to which the methods of the paper under review apply include some hyperbolic links with crossing number less than twelve. The author also proves that every link in the 3-sphere is a sublink of a link that satisfies the conjecture. The results in the paper under review have applications to the so-called AMU conjecture formulated by Andersen, Masbaum and Ueno [\textit{J. E. Andersen} et al., Math. Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 141, No. 3, 477--488 (2006; Zbl 1110.57009)], on quantum representations of surface mapping class groups. Using work of Detcherry and Kalfagianni [\textit{R. Detcherry} and \textit{E. Kalfagianni}, Adv. Math. 351, 676--701 (2019; Zbl 1419.57034)] which provides relations between the Turaev-Viro invariant volume conjecture and the AMU conjecture, the results extend the class of known examples that satisfy the latter conjecture. The author obtains in particular explicit mapping class group elements satisfying this conjecture for a surface for any genus with four boundary components.
