The authors of this work applied the so-called Virtual Element Method (VEM) for an acoustic wave propagation problem on domains with curved (including internal) boundaries. Stability and convergence results for the semi-discrete solution in suitable norms are given. Numerical examples with analytical solutions are used to demonstrate the dominance of geometrical error when the conventional VEM is used. An example where propagation of a plane wave in a heterogenous domain with a circular inclusion is used in demonstrating the superiority of the proposed method over the existing VEM with straight edge approximations. The second example deals with a plane wave on a domain with circular inclusion with different mechanical properties from its surroundings. The last example deals with a curved geometry that represents a case of listric fault cutting a sequence of sedimentary layers. The goal is to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method for problems with complex geometry where no spurious oscillations due to curved geometries are present.
