This work forms part of a large program of research, studying the cohomology of vertex algebras. A filtered vertex algebra has an associated Poisson vertex algebra (PVA). And the cohomology of a filtered vertex algebra embeds the classical PVA cohomology. In some cases, this embedding is an isomorphism. However on a PVA, there is another notion of cohomology: the variational PVA cohomology which is related to integrable systems. An advantage of the variational PVA cohomology is that this has been explicitly computed in many examples of special interest. In this work, it is proved that under certain assumptions the variational PVA cohomology and the classical PVA cohomology are isomorphic. Thee technique used to prove this isomorphism uses a relation between the complex of the classical PVA with a Harrison complex. The isomorphisms between the classical and variational PVA cohomology follow from the vanishing of the Harrison cohomology.
