The main goal of this work is to establish point-wise estimates for a family of functions that are fundamentally connected to the spectral analysis of spherical Laplacians and sub-Laplacians and expressed in terms of ultraspherical polynomials. For two-parameter Jacobi polynomial families, the authors demonstrate point-wise bounds. These bounds imply estimates for a group of functions resulting from the spectral analysis of well-known Laplacians and sub-Laplacians on the unit sphere in arbitrary dimension, and they are crucial to the proof of sharp multiplier theorems for those operators, which is covered in a companion paper.
