In the present article, the authors are interested in the Mukai conjecture for fake projective planes. The Mukai conjecture states that a sufficiently high power of an ample line bundle \(L\) tensored with the canonical bundle satisfies the \(N_p\) property which is a condition on the syzygies up to the \(p\)-th one (recall that \(N_0\) corresponds to projective normality and \(N_1\) corresponds to projective normality plus the condition that the ideal of the embedded subvariety is generated by quadric polynomials). So far \(N_p\) property has been proved only for certain kind of surfaces, provided that the line bundle \(L\) is base-point-free and satisfy some other ``regularity'' conditions. The Theorems here presented give an explicit lower bound for the minimal power of an arbitrary ample line bundle on a fake projective plane \(S\) in order to satisfy the \(N_p\) property. In particular it also gives informations on the syzygies of the canonical line bundle. Sharper lower bounds are obtained if one asssumes moreover that \(L\) is base-point-free or \(S\) satisfies a conjecture (which is known to be true for certain fake projective planes) related to the existence problem for exceptional objects in the derived category of coherent sheaves of \(S\). The idea of the proof is taken from [\textit{F. J. Gallego} and \textit{B. P. Purnaprajna}, J. Reine Angew. Math. 506, 145--180 (2000; Zbl 0951.14012)] and relies on the cohomological criterion for the property \(N_p\) obtained by \textit{M. L. Green} [J. Differ. Geom. 20, 279--289 (1984; Zbl 0559.14009)] and the result of Castelnuovo-Mumford concerning the surjective of certain tensor product maps on various spaces of global sections.
