In this paper the authors consider the system determined by a laminated beam when thermal and mass diffusion mechanisms are imposed. It is a system determined by three hyperbolic equations (one of them with a dissipative mechanism) and two parabolic equations. Two different class of boundary conditions are considered. In both cases the auhtors prove the existence, uniqueness as well as the polynomial decay (of type \(t^{-1/2}\)) of the solutions by means of the linear semigroups theory. Exponential decay of solutions is also proved whenever certain coefficients determining the system satisfy a certain condition. This result is proved by means of the energy arguments. The paper concludes by giving a numerical study of the problem by means of the implicit Euler scheme in the time variable and the finite element for the spatial variable. Some pictures describe the behavior of the solutions.
