Let \(A^s_{p,q} (\mathbb R^n)\), \(A \in \{B,F \}\), \(s\in \mathbb R\) and \(0<p,q \le \infty\) be the nowadays well-known spaces on \(\mathbb R^n\). Let \(A^s_{p,q} (\Omega)\) be their related restrictions to an open set \(\Omega\) in \(\mathbb R^n\). It is one of the key problems of theory of these spaces to find out conditions for \(\Omega\) and the parameters \(s,p,q\) ensuring that there exists a linear and bounded extension operator \[ E: A^s_{p,q} (\Omega) \to A^s_{p,q} (\mathbb R^n). \] The spaces \(A^s_{p,q} (\mathbb R^n)\) have been extended and modified in many directions. In particular, \(\mathbb R^n\) has been generalized by so-called spaces \((X,d,\mu)\) of homogeneous type where \(X\) is a set, \(d\) is a quasi-metric and \(\mu\) is a measure (satisfying the doubling condition). If \(\Omega \subset X\) and if \((\Omega, d, \mu)\) is the related space of homogeneous type, then one asks again under which conditions there is a linear and bounded extension operator \[ E: A^s_{p,q} \big( (\Omega, d, \mu) \big) \to A^s_{p,q} \big( (X,d,\mu) \big). \] It is the main aim of this paper to study this question in detail.
