The paper under review concerns the connections between certain representations of the Thompson group \(F\) and bilateral noncommutative Markov processes, understood as quadruples \((M, \psi, \alpha, A_0)\), where \(M\) is a von Neumann algebra, \(\psi\) is a faithful normal state of \(M\), \(\alpha \in \mathrm{Aut}(M, \psi)\) and \(A_0\) a certain subalgebra of \(M\), with several natural probabilistic conditions connecting subalgebras of the type \(\alpha^k(A_0)\), \(\bigvee_{n=-\infty}^{k} \alpha^n(A_0)\) and \(\bigvee_{n=k}^{\infty} \alpha^n(A_0)\) (with \(k \in \mathbb{Z}\)). The authors modify the earlier study of [\textit{C.~Köstler} et al., J. Funct. Anal. 284, No.~6, Article ID 109818, 70~p. (2023; Zbl 07646936)], where the focus was put on unilateral noncommutative Markov processes and representations of the Thompson monoid \(F^+\). Here, they show for example how a representation of \(F\) (inside a von Neumann algebra) leads to a bilateral stationary Markov process, and conversely, how a `tensor-type' dilation of a unital completely positive state preserving map of a von Neumann algebra leads to a representation of \(F\). Several examples related to classical Markov chains are given.
