In this very interesting paper, the authors study quantitative unique continuation of complex-valued solutions to drift equations in \(\mathbb{R}^2\). More precisely, they consider equations of the type \[ \Delta u+\langle W,\nabla u\rangle =0 \ \ \text{ in } \mathbb{R}^2, \] where \(W=W_1+iW_2\), and each \(W_k\) is real-valued. Assuming \(W_j\in L^{q_j}\) for some \(q_1\in[2,\infty]\), \(q_2\in (2,\infty]\) and that \(W_2\) has rapid decay at infinity, the authors prove novel global unique continuation estimates. Key ingredients used in the paper are the clever reduction of the equations to vector-valued Beltrami systems, a novel order of vanishing estimate, along with a finite iteration scheme. The order of vanishing estimate is obtained through new three-ball inequalities, which in turn are obtained through \(L^p-L^2\) Carleman estimates for the operator \(\overline{\partial}\).
