Let \((X,L,{\mathbb C}^*)\) be a polarized complex projective manifold, \(L\) an ample line bundle over \(X\), which admits a \({\mathbb C}^*\)-action. The orbit \(t \cdot x\) of any point \(x \in X\) has limiting points when \(t\) goes to zero (the source of the orbit) and to infinity (the sink). In particular, there exist fixed point components, the source and the sink of the action, where the sources (resp. the sinks) of the orbits of points on a dense subset of \(X\) lie. Moreover, for any fixed point component, a natural \({\mathbb C}^*\) action on its normal bundle appears. In the paper under review (see Thm. 4.1 and 4.5) the authors classify triplets \((X,L,{\mathbb C}^*)\) for which the \(L\)-degree of the orbit of a general point is less than or equal to three, whose sink and source are isolated points, and the weights of the action on any normal bundle to a fixed point component are \(1\) or \(-1\). These triplets are the projective space and the quadric (\(L={\mathcal O}(1)\)), some scrolls over \({\mathbb P}^1\), some product quadric bundles over \({\mathbb P}^1\), and a particular set of Fano manifolds of Picard number one. As an application, the homogeneity of certain contact Fano manifolds of dimension 11 and 13 is proved.
