Let \(I \subset R\) denote an ideal of a commutative Noetherian ring \(R\). For an integer \(n \geq 1\) let \(I^{(n)}\) denote the \(n\)-th symbolic power. Clearly \(I^n \subseteq I^{(n)}\). When \(R\) is regular or a polynomial ring the containment problem is to determine the smallest number \(s\) such that \(I^{(s)} \subset I^t\) for a given \(t\). To this end \textit{C. Bocci} and \textit{B. Harbourne} [J. Algebr. Geom. 19, No. 3, 399--417 (2010; Zbl 1198.14001)] introduced the resurgence \(\rho(I) = \sup \{s/t : s,t \in \mathbb{N} \text{ and } I^{(s)} \not\subseteq I^t\}\). In the past there are various results about resurgence and an asymptotic variant. Here the authors prove sharp upper and lower bounds for the resurgence and the asymptotic resurgence of cover ideals of finite graphs in terms of combinatorial invariants. Moreover, there is an explicit computation of resurgence and asymptotic resurgence of cover ideals of various classes of graphs as well as of edge ideals of some classes of graphs. Furthermore there is a characterization of an graph to be bipartite in terms of resurgence and the asymptotic resurgence of edge and cover ideals. As a technical tool they study the relationship between \(\rho(I \star J)\) and \(\rho(I), \rho(J)\) for various operations \(\star\) between the ideals \(I,J\). This could be also of some interest for further investigations.
