The authors consider the linear matrix pencil \(\lambda A+B\) and prove two results: (1) The numerical range of the linear pencil \(\lambda A+B\) is equal to \(\mathbb{C}\) if and only if 0 belongs to the convex hull of the joint numerical range of the matrices \(A\) and \(B\); (2) \(A\) and \(B\) have a common isotropic vector if the numerical range of the matrix pencil \(\lambda A+B\) is equal to \(\mathbb{C}\) and \(A\)+\(A^*\), \(B+B^*\) \(\geq 0\). Finally, a classical result that describes Hermitian linear pencils is improved.
