The subadjunction theorem of \textit{Y. Kawamata} [Contemp. Math. 207, 79--88 (1997; Zbl 0901.14004)] and \textit{O. Fujino} and \textit{Y. Gongyo} [Mich. Math. J. 61, No. 2, 255--264 (2012; Zbl 1260.14010)] shows that, given a log canonical pair \((X, D)\) over the complex numbers with a minimal log canonical (lc) centre \(W\), then there exists \(D_W \geq 0\) such that \((W, D_W)\) is klt and \(K_X+D _W \sim_{\mathbb{Q}} K_W+D_W\). In this article, an extension of subadjunction to the case of quasi-log canonical pairs \([X, \omega]\) is established (Theorem 1.1). This generalisation is then applied to the extend known results on lc pairs to semi-log canonical (slc) pairs. First, it is shown that slc Fano pairs are simply connected and rationally chain connected (Theorems 1.6, 1.7). Second, a version of the cone theorem for slc pairs which gives an explicit control on how the rational curves intersect the non-klt locus (Theorem 7.7) generalising [\textit{R. Svaldi}, Sel. Math., New Ser. 25, No. 5, Paper No. 67, 23 p. (2019; Zbl 1442.14057)] to the slc setting. This cone theorem can be used, for example, to show that the log canonical divisor \(K_X+D\) of a slc Mori hyperbolic pair \((X,D)\) is nef.
