This work discusses some dynamical properties of the two-process model of the sleep-wake cycle. The model, which combines a smooth growth (representing the homeostatic sleep pressure) with event-based discrete maps (representing the circadian process), is investigated from the point of view of dynamical systems theory, with special emphasis on the stability of periodic orbits of the resulting nonsmooth flow. Diagrams of Lyapunov exponents and bifurcations of periodic solutions are studied.
