In this paper, the existence of discrete Lorenz attractors in connections with heteroclinic cycles consisting of saddle fixed points is studied. As the author points out, ``the original system is the limiting point in the space of dynamical systems of a sequence of domains in which the diffeomorphism possesses discrete Lorenz attractors.'' In Section 2, the problem is stated. Also, the main definitions and some facts from the normal hyperbolicity theory are presented. Three fundamentally different cases of nonsimple heteroclinic orbits are identified. The birth of discrete Lorenz attractors in these cases is analyzed in next sections. The section ends with the statement of the main theorem. In Section 3, the construction of the first return map in the three cases is given and the rescaling lemma is formulated. The main theorem follows directly by this lemma. In Section 4, the proof of the rescaling lemma is presented.
