The authors prime objective with this paper is the investigation of fractal bases and frames for the Lebesgue space \(L^2(I\times J)\) where \(I\) and \(J\) are compact intervals of \(\mathbb{R}\). In particular, the (left and right) fractal convolution operator is used to derive results such as the existence of Bessel sequences, Riesz bases and frames consisting of products of self-referential functions.
