Let \((R,M)\) be a DVR with quotient field \(K\) and with finite residue field. The main object of study of this paper is the absolutely irreducible elements (i.e. irreducible elements all of whose powers have a unique factorization) of the ring of integer-valued polynomials Int\((R):=\{f\in K[X]\ \vert\ f(R)\subseteq R\}.\) The main result is Theorem 2 that completely characterizes absolutely irreducible polynomials of Int\((R)\) that split over \(K.\) Applications are given.
