    Denoting by \(\mathbb{Q}\) the quaternionic algebra with the imaginary units \(i,j,k\), and fixing a symbol \(\sigma\in{\mathcal S}(\mathbb{R}^4,\mathbb{Q})\), the quaternion Weyl transform \(W_\sigma\) via the Wigner transform \(W\) for \(f,g\in{\mathcal S}(\mathbb{R}^2,\mathbb{Q})\) is given by \[ \langle W_\sigma f,g\rangle=\int_{\mathbb{R}^2} \int_{\mathbb{R}^2}\sigma(x,\xi) W(f,g)(x,\xi)dx d\xi, \] where the Wigner transform for \(f,g\in{\mathcal S}(\mathbb{R}^2,\mathbb{Q})\) is defined by \[ W(f,g)(x,\xi)=\int_{\mathbb{R}^2}e^{-2\pi i \xi_1 p_1} f(x+\frac{p}{2}) \overline{g(x-\frac{p}{2})}e^{-2\pi j\xi_2 p_2} dp. \] The authors prove that the Weil transform is a compact operator on \(L^2(\mathbb{R}^2,\mathbb{Q})\) for some symbols in \(L^r(\mathbb{R}^2,\mathbb{Q})\) when \(1\le r\le2\), and it is unbounded if \(2<r<\infty\). By considering a quaternion analogue of the Heisenberg group Weyl transform, a version of the Benedicks-Amrein-Berthier theorem is also proved.
