The author is interested in modulating front solutions for dispersive pattern forming systems with a conserved quantity close to the onset of pattern formation. Modulating traveling fronts describe the spatial transition from the homogeneous ground state to the bifurcating periodic traveling wave through an invading front. In the present paper the author considers a one-dimensional dispersive Swift-Hohenberg equation coupled to a dispersive conservation law. A complete classification of the modulating front solutions depending on the occuring group velocities can be found. These solutions are constructed rigorously with spatial dynamics and a center manifold reduction. It can be expepected that these solutions occur in more realistic pattern forming systems, too.
