Given a matrix of a linear system, the author basically asks which elements of this matrix can destabilise the system the most by violating the condition of all coefficients of the characteristic polynomial being positive. He studies this question for three types of matrices with fixed sign structure from the viewpoint of combinatorial matrix theory.
