The authors consider a line defect in a phononic bandgap crystal consisting of gas bubbles in a liquid. The wave propagation problem inside the periodic crystal is written as \(\kappa _{d}(x)\nabla \cdot (\frac{1}{\rho _{d}(x)} \nabla u(x))+\omega ^{2}u(x)\), \(x\in \mathbb{R}^{2}\). Since the defect crystal is periodic in the \(x_{1}\)-direction, the authors use the Floquet transformation to decompose the above equation as \(\kappa _{d}(x)\nabla \cdot (\frac{1}{\rho _{d}(x)}\nabla u(x))+\omega ^{2}u(x)\), \(x\in Y_{s}=[-1/2,1/2)\times \mathbb{R}\), \(e^{-i\alpha _{1}x_{1}}u\) is periodic in \(x_{1}\), where \(\alpha _{1}\in Y^{\ast }=\mathbb{R}^{2}/2\pi \mathbb{Z}\). \( \Lambda _{d,\alpha _{1}}\) is the set of \(\omega \) such that \(\omega ^{2}\) is in the spectrum of the operator \(\kappa _{d}\nabla \cdot \frac{1}{\rho _{d}} \nabla \) and \(\Lambda _{d,\alpha _{1}}^{ess}\) is the corresponding essential part of the spectrum. The main result of the paper proves that if \(\delta \) and \(R\) are small enough, there is a unique characteristic value \(\omega ^{\varepsilon }(\alpha _{1})\) of the \(\mathcal{M}^{\varepsilon ,\delta ,\alpha _{1}}(\omega )=\left( \begin{array}{cc} 1 & M_{1}(\omega ) \\ 0 & I+M_{0}(\omega ) \end{array} \right) \) for operators \(M_{0}(\omega ),M_{1}(\omega )\) which depend on \( \varepsilon ,\delta ,\alpha _{1}\), such that \(\omega ^{\varepsilon }(\alpha _{1})\notin \Lambda _{0,\alpha _{1}}\) and \(\omega ^{\varepsilon }(\alpha _{1})\) is in the subwavelength regime. Moreover, for \(\alpha _{1}\neq 0\), \( \omega ^{\varepsilon }(\alpha _{1})=\widehat{\omega }+O(R^{2}+\delta )\), where \(\widehat{\omega }\) is the root of an equation explicitly given. In the last part of the paper, the authors present numerical results based on an approximation of the operator \(\mathcal{M}^{\varepsilon ,\delta ,\alpha _{1}}(\omega )\) as a matrix using the truncated Fourier basis and.concerning dilute or non-dilute regimes.
