The paper deals with the spectral properties of the algebra \(UT_m(X)\) of all \(m\times m\) upper triangular matrices with entries in a unital commutative Banach algebra \(X\) for the case \(m\geqslant 2\). The algebra \(UT_m(X)\) is itself a unital non-commutative Banach algebra.\par In case of a unital commutative Banach algebra \(A\) it is known that there exists a bijection between the set \({\mathcal M}(A)\) of all nonzero complex homomorphisms on \(A\) and the set \(\Delta(A)\) of all maximal ideals of \(A\). In the non-commutative case such a result is not known, in general.\par As the first main result, the authors show that there exists a bijection netween the set \({\mathcal M}(UT_m(X))\) and the set \(\Delta(UT_m(X))\).\par As an application, the authors show that if every maximal ideal of \(UT_M(X)\) is countably/finitely generated, then every maximal ideal of \(X\) is also countably/finitely generated, \(UT_m(X)\) is finite dimensional and \(X\) is finite dimensional. \textit{Remark.} The paper has some problems with the consistent usage of symbols, which might make the reading of the paper sometimes a bit confusing. For example, Proposition~3.1(b) is stated in terms of a matrix \(A\), but proved in terms of a matrix \(B\). Moreover, while talking about the generator set \(S\) of a two-sided ideal \(I\) of an algebra \(A\), the authors write every element of \(I\) in the form \[\sum_{k=1}^{n}r_ka_ks_k,\] where \(r_k, s_k\in A\) and \(a_k\in S\), but shortly afterwards write \(S=\{s_1, \dots, s_n\}\). So, one would expect to write a general element of the ideal \(I\) rather as \[\sum_{k=1}^{n}a_ks_kb_k,\] where \(a_k, b_k\in A\) and \(s_k\in S\).
