    Let \(G\) be a locally compact group and let \(\Phi\) be an \(N\)-function on \(G\). Denote by \(A_{\Phi}(G)\) the Figà-Talamanca-Herz-Orlicz algebra, which is a generalization of the Figà-Talamanca-Herz algebra \(A_p(G)\), \(1 \leq p \leq \infty\). The space \(A_{\Phi}(G)\) is a Banach algebra under pointwise multiplication. In the paper under review the authors investigate the following interesting question: Under what conditions on \(G\) is \(A_{\Phi}(G)\) a Banach algebra under convolution? It is shown that if \(G\) is amenable, then \(A_{\Phi}(G)\) is a Banach algebra under convolution if and only if \(G\) is compact. It is conjectured by the authors that this result is true if the hypothesis of \(G\) being amenable is removed. It is also shown in this paper that the following are equivalent when \(G\) is a compact group and \(A_{\Phi}(G)\) is a Banach algebra under convolution: \begin{itemize} \item[1.] \(A_{\Phi}(G)\) has a bounded approximate identity. \item[2.] \(A_{\Phi}(G)\) is unital. \item[3.] \(A_{\Phi}(G)\) is an amenable Banach algebra. \item[4.] \(G\) is finite. \end{itemize}
