This paper regards solutions to flat matrix problems of type Gelfand and their applications in the research of the derived category of some certain algebras called string almost gentle algebras (SAG algebras) and string algebras with the unique maximal path property (SUMP algebras). In a seminal paper, \textit{V. M. Bondarenko} [Math. USSR, Sb. 25, 58--68 (1976; Zbl 0364.20014)] introduced a category \(s(\mathcal{Y},k)\), where \(\mathcal{Y}\) is a chain and \(k\) is a field. Objects and morphisms in this category are given by matrix representations of the chain \(\mathcal {Y}\), which is endowed with an involution \(\sigma\). Indecomposable objects in \(s(\mathcal{Y},k)\) corresponds to indecomposable representations of the poset with involution \((\mathcal{Y},\sigma)\). Afterwards, \textit{V. Bekkert} and \textit{H. A. Merklen} [Algebr. Represent. Theory 6, No. 3, 285--302 (2003; Zbl 1032.16011)] proved that an object of Bondarenko's category is associated with each string. In fact, they interpreted indecomposable objects of \(s(\mathcal{Y},k)\) in terms of string and band complexes of a gentle algebra. In this paper, the authors define generalized string and band complexes associated with derived categories of SAG and SUMP algebras to describe some of their indecomposable objects based on the ideas of Bondarenko and Bekkert-Merklen. As an additional result, the authors give a necessary and sufficient condition for a given string complex to have infinite minimal projective resolution. Furthermore, it is given a sufficient condition for a SAG algebra to have infinite global dimension.
