The author uses a new iteration argument to obtain the estimates for the time derivatives of the heat kernel on complete non-compact manifolds. Then the author applies these estimates to study the \(L^p\)-boundedness of the Littlewood-Paley-Stein operators on a class of locally symmetric spaces.
