Homotopy classification is a preliminary step to study the index of elliptic operators, according to the classical arguments of [\textit{M. F. Atiyah} and \textit{I. M. Singer}, Ann. Math. (2) 87, 484--530 (1968; Zbl 0164.24001)] for the case of a smooth closed manifold M. Here the author obtains homotopy classification for three classes of elliptic problems. Namely, the initial part of the paper is devoted to the boundary value problems without the transmission property described in [\textit{S. Rempel} and \textit{B.-W. Schulze}, Math. Nachr. 105, 45--149 (1982; Zbl 0544.35095)] Then the author considers the case of transmission problems on a closed submanifold X of codimension 1 in a closed manifold M. Finally, the homotopy classification is given for nonlocal elliptic problems with contractions. The C* algebra of such interesting problems was constructed by \textit{A. Yu. Savin} and \textit{B. Yu. Sternin} [Differ. Equ. 52, No. 10, 1331--1340 (2016; Zbl 06695400); translation from Differ. Uravn. 52, No. 10, 1383--1392 (2016); Differ. Equ. 53, No. 5, 665--676 (2017; Zbl 1373.58012); translation from Differ. Uravn. 53, No. 5, 672--683 (2017)].
