This paper deals with similarities between the Gauss map and the Lüroth map from a dynamical perspective and with chaotic properties of the Lüroth map. Special special consideration is given to the relation between notions such as regular continued fractions and Lüroth series, the Gauss map and the Lüroth map, as well as some notions of chaos, etc. Certain topological dynamical systems and dynamical sets are considered. Also, some basic results on Lüroth series and Hausdorff dimension are given. Certain similarities between regular continued fractions and Lüroth series, in terms of topological dynamics and the Hausdorff dimension, are investigated with explanations. The authors note that a complete analogue for the Lüroth transformation of results from [\textit{W. Liu} and \textit{B. Li}, J. Number Theory 174, 369--383 (2017; Zbl 1400.11019)] and [\textit{W. Liu} and \textit{S. Wang}, Fractals 27, No. 8, Article ID 1950139 (2019; Zbl 1434.11154)] on the distal, asymptotic and Li-Yorke pairs for the Gauss map are established. Finally, several open problems are formulated.
