In the attempt to develop a theory for complex partial differential equations, the study of model equations are a first necessity. In recent years polyanalytic and polyharmonic differential operators were studied in relation to boundary value problems. They are mainly the Schwarz boundary value problem for the polyanalytic and Dirichlet, Neumann, Robin boundary value problems and their combinations for the polyharmonic differential operators. Also boundary value problems for products of polyanalytic and polyharmonic operators have been investigated in the past. The present paper is on one side a survey about the theory of polyanalytic and polyharmonic equations on the other hand it introduces a generalization of the higher order Pompeiu integral operator. Its kernel is a polyanalytic function in the variable \(z\) depending on the parameter \(\zeta\) solving the equation \[ \partial_{\overline{z}}^nC_n(z,\zeta)=\frac{1}{\zeta-z}. \] This integral operator is used to solve the Neumann boundary value problem for the inhomogeneous polyanalytic equation of order \(n\) in domains with a harmonic Green function under certain \(n\) solvability conditions. In an appendix the polyanalytic Schwarz kernel and the polyharmonic Green, Neumann, Robin, and hybrid Green functions are collected for several particular planar domains.
