The topic of the paper is to explore a different type of local converse problem over p-adic fields that has not been explored in the literature. Traditionally, the local converse problem that has been explored has been about standard gamma factors, with twisting by suitable representations. This problem was called the Jacquet conjecture, and has recently been proved by Jacquet-Liu and Chai. The converse problem under consideration in this paper is conjectured by Ramakrishnan, and involves local exterior power gamma factors, twisted by characters. It stipulates that if \(\pi_1, \pi_2\) are irreducible unitarizable supercuspidal representations of \(GL_n(F)\), and if for all characters \(\chi\) of \(F^{\times}\) we have \[\gamma(s, \pi_1 \times \chi, \psi) = \gamma(s, \pi_2 \times \chi, \psi),\] as well as \[\gamma(s, \pi_1, \wedge^j \otimes \chi, \psi) = \gamma(s, \pi_2, \wedge^j \otimes \chi, \psi)\] for all \(2 \leq j \leq [\frac{n}{2}]\), then \(\pi_1 \cong \pi_2\). The authors prove that if \(\pi_1, \pi_2\) are simple supercuspidal representations, then by only needing to assume the \(j= 2\) condition above, then Ramakrishnan's conjecture is true in the case that \(n\) is odd. In the case that \(n\) is even, they prove it ``up to a sign''. The authors also remark that the reason for only considering exterior square (i.e. \(j =2\)) is that this is the only situation where we know the existence of exterior powers.
