The authors review a series of old and recent works which aim to model the long term evolution of orbiting bodies, by accurately taking into account the tidal dissipation. They increase the accuracy of the previous models, in the case of a point mass orbiting around an extended body which is nearly spherical and has a changing tidal bulge. Their techniques consist in vectorial elements for the spin and the orbit, expansions in Hansen coefficients, averaging over the mean anomaly and the argument of the pericentre. The authors model several rheologies and are therefore able to treat different planet-satellite binaries or double stars. They provide an annex on Hansen coefficients.
