From the introduction: ``It is quite recent that negative answers are given to the following long standing natural questions: {Question 1.1} Let \(V\) be a smooth complex projective variety of dimension \(\geq 2\). (1) Is the automorphism group \(\mathrm{Aut}(V)\) finitely generated if \(\mathrm{Aut}(V)\) is discrete? (2) Are real forms of \(V\), i.e., systems of homogeneous equations with real coefficients defining \(V\), finite up to isomorphisms over \(\mathbb{R}\)? The first negative answers to these questions are given by \textit{J. Lesieutre} [Invent. Math. 212, No. 1, 189--211 (2018; Zbl 1393.14012)]. He constructs a smooth complex projective variety \(V\) of dimension 6 with Kodaira dimension \(\kappa(V ) = -\infty\) denying both (1) and (2). This variety is not rationally connected. Expanding his idea, \textit{T.-C. Dinh} and \textit{K. Oguiso} [Duke Math. J. 168, No. 6, 941--966 (2019; Zbl 1427.14085)] construct a smooth complex projective variety \(V\) of any dimension \(\geq 2\) with \(\kappa(V) \geq 0\) again denying both (1) and (2). In somewhat different directions, \textit{A. Dubouloz} et al. construct smooth affine rational varieties for any dimension \(\geq 4\) with infinitely many real forms [J. Reine Angew. Math. 771, 215--226 (2021; Zbl 1490.14094)]. However, it is still completely open if there are counterexamples among smooth complex projective rational varieties, the most basic varieties in birational algebraic geometry. The aim of this paper is to construct a smooth complex projective rational variety \(V\) of any dimension \(\geq 3\) denying both (1) and (2).''
