Recall that a real structure on a smooth complex manifold \(X\) is an anti-holomorphic involution \(c: X\to X\). More generally, a Klein action of a group \(G\) on \(X\) is an action of \(G\) by holomorphic and anti-holomorphic maps. The authors consider a compact hyper-Kähler (aka irreducible holomorphic symplectic) manifold \(X\) and show that, up to conjugation by a Klein automorphism, \(X\) admits but finitely many real structures or, more generally, faithful finite group Klein actions. (It is worth comparing this result to the \textit{deformation} finiteness established in [\textit{A. Degtyarev} et al., Mosc. Math. J. 7, No. 2, 257--263 (2007; Zbl 1129.14079)].) Both statements follow from the following theorem, proved in the paper: \textit{each of the groups \(\operatorname{Bir}X\) (birational), \(\operatorname{Aut}X\) (holomorphic), or \(\operatorname{KAut}X\) (Klein) of automorphisms of \(X\) has but finitely many conjugacy classes of finite subgroups.} As a closely related statement, the authors prove that, if \(X\) is projective, the groups \(G=\operatorname{Bir}X\) or \(\operatorname{Aut}X\) are finitely presented and have the property that the trivial \(G\)-module \(\mathbb{Z}\) admits a resolution by finitely presented projective \(G\)-modules. (For non-projective hyper-Kähler varieties a similar fact is established in [\textit{K. Oguiso}, J. Differ. Geom. 78, No. 1, 163--191 (2008; Zbl 1141.14021)].)
