Let \(L|K\) be a Galois extension of number fields with Galois group \(G\) and suppose \(K\neq\mathbb{Q}\). The authors prove that, given a conjugacy class \(C\) in the group \(G\), there is an unramified prime \(\mathfrak p\) of \(K\) of degree one such that \(\sigma_{\mathfrak p}=C\) and \(N\mathfrak p\leq d(L)^{310}\), where \(d(L)\) is the discriminant of \(L\) and \(\sigma_{\mathfrak p}\) is the Artin symbol at \(\mathfrak p\). Let \(\pi (C; x)\) stand for the number of degree one unramified primes \(\mathfrak p\) of \(K\) with \(\sigma_{\mathfrak p}=C\) and \(N\mathfrak p\leq x\). As an application of the cited result, the authors prove that \[ \pi (C; x)\geq 0.4899 \frac {|C|}{|G|}\frac {x}{\log x}\text{ for }x\geq\exp (d(L)^{11.7}). \] To obtain those estimates the authors carefully analyse the distribution of zeros of the corresponding Dedekind zeta-functions, improving on the previously known results. Some of their improvements rely on numerical calculations.
