Le \(G\) be a finite group, \(\mathcal{O}\) a complete discrete evaluation ring, \(\mathbb{F}\) an algebraically closed field of prime chracteristic \(p\), \(b\) a block of \(\mathcal{O}G\) and \(P\) a defect group of \(b\). An idempotent \(i\in(\mathcal{O}Gb)^{P}\) with \(\mathrm{Br}_P(i)\not=0\) is called an almost source idempotent if for any subgroup \(Q\leq P\) it determines a unique block \(e_Q\) of \(\mathbb{F}C_G(Q)\) such that \(\mathrm{Br}_Q(i)e_Q=\mathrm{Br}_Q(i)\). An almost source algebra \(A\) of \(b\) is the interior \(P\)-algebra \(i\mathcal{O}Gi\) with structural homomorphism \(u\mapsto iui\). They generalize source algebras by not requiring the idempotent \(i\) to be primitive with the motive that in many arguments what is relevant is not the primitiveness but the unique determination. The almost source algebra \(A\) determines a fusion system \(\mathcal{F}\) on \(P\). Given a basis \(\Omega\) that is stable under the right and the left action of \(P\), a theorem of Linckelmann (Theorem 1.1) explains how \(\Omega\) determines \(\mathcal{F}\). The main concern of the paper is the existence of \(\Omega\) for which the authors provide an equivalent condition in terms of certain properties of \(\mathcal{F}\) (Theorem 1.2). They also show that for some almost source algebra of the block \(b\), these equivalent conditions hold when \(G\) is \(p\)-solvable (Theorem 1.4).
