The Alperin weight conjecture (AWC) is a famous and long-standing conjecture which posits that the number of \(p\)-modular irreducible Brauer characters of a finite group \(G\) is equal to the number of \(p\)-weights of \(G\), where a \(p\)-weight (up to \(G\)-conjugacy) is a \(p\)-subgroup \(Q\) of \(G\) paired with a character of \(N_G(Q)/Q\) of \(p\)-defect zero. Further, this is expected to still hold when looking at irreducible Brauer characters of a \(p\)-block rather than a whole group. This refinement is the blockwise AWC. Work of \textit{G. Navarro} and \textit{P. H. Tiep} [Invent. Math. 184, No. 3, 529--565 (2011; Zbl 1234.20010)] and \textit{B. Späth} [J. Group Theory 16, No. 2, 159--220 (2013; Zbl 1282.20010)] have reduced this conjecture (and its blockwise version) to finite simple groups: to prove AWC, it is sufficient to prove that every finite nonabelian simple group \(G\) satisfies the inductive blockwise Alperin weight (BAW) condition. In this paper, the authors show that to verify the inductive BAW condition for every simple group of Lie type with non-exceptional Schur multiplier in non-defining characteristic, it is sufficient to verify the inductive BAW condition for the quasi-isolated blocks of every finite quasisimple group of Lie type in non-defining characteristic under an additional assumption (Assumption 5.3) about extendibility of Brauer characters which is known to hold in several cases (see Remark 5.4). To achieve this, the authors extend a recent result of \textit{L. Ruhstorfer} [Represent. Theory 26, 542--584 (2022; Zbl 1503.18010)] to obtain a Morita equivalence between the block algebras of \(N_{G^F}(Q)/Q\) and \(N_{L^F}(Q)/Q\) for \(G\) a connected reductive algebraic group over \(\overline{\mathbb{F}_p}\) and \(F\) a Steinberg map on \(G\), \(L\) a particular choice of Levi subgroup of \(G\) and \(Q\) an \(\ell\)-subgroup of \(G^F\). This allows the authors to prove a Jordan decomposition for the inductive BAW condition and obtain the result.
