The Alperin weight conjecture was formulated in [Proc. Symp. Pure Math. 47, 369--379 (1987; Zbl 0657.20013)] by \textit{J. L. Alperin}. It states that, for a \(p\)-block \(B\) of a finite group \(G\), the number of irreducible \(p\)-Brauer characters in the block \(B\) equals the number of \(B\)-weights up to \(G\)-conjugacy. Using the classification of finite simple groups, Alperin's weight conjecture has been reduced, in the block-free version by \textit{G. Navarro} and the reviewer [Invent. Math. 184, No. 3, 529--565 (2011; Zbl 1234.20010)], and in the blockwise version by \textit{B. Späth} [J. Group Theory 16, No. 2, 159--220 (2013; Zbl 1282.20010)], to a condition, referred to as the inductive blockwise Alperin weight condition, that one needs to verify for all simple groups involved in \(G\). This paper is a nice contribution to the program of verifying the inductive blockwise Alperin weight condition for all finite simple groups, and completes the cases of exceptional groups of Lie type \(S = G_2(q)\) and \(S= ^3D_4(q)\). It relies particularly on previous results of \textit{G. Hiß} and \textit{J. Shamash} [J. Algebra 131, No. 2, 371--387 (1990; Zbl 0711.20008); Math. Comput. 59, No. 200, 645--672 (1992; Zbl 0790.20018)] on \(p\)-blocks of \(G_2(q)\), and of \textit{D. I. Deriziotis} and \textit{G. O. Michler} on \(p\)-blocks of \(^3D_4(q)\) [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 303, 39--70 (1987; Zbl 0628.20014)], as well as the description of weights for these two groups obtained by \textit{J. An} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. (3) 69, No. 1, 22--46 (1994; Zbl 0802.20012); Math. Z. 218, No. 2, 273--290 (1995; Zbl 0814.20009)]. It also uses results of \textit{B. Späth} [Math. Z. 261, No. 3, 571--595 (2009; Zbl 1178.20006); loc. cit.], respectively of \textit{S. Koshitani} and \textit{B. Späth} [Arch. Math. 106, No. 2, 107--116 (2016; Zbl 1343.20014); J. Group Theory 19, No. 5, 777--813 (2016; Zbl 1370.20009)], that verify the condition in the case \(p\) is the defining characteristic for \(S\), respectively in the case Sylow \(p\)-subgroups of \(S\) are cyclic.
