The remarkable paper under review provides a direct self-contained approach to singular traces of operator ideals on separable infinite-dimensional real Hilbert spaces. We recall that a trace is a linear functional that vanishes on commutators, and such a functional is said to be singular if it vanishes on the finite-rank operators. Among other things, the author obtains singular traces on a wide variety of principal ideals and discusses integrability of operators with respect to a set of traces. The main ingredients of the present approach are a suitable version of the Hahn-Banach theorem and a so-called dyadic representation of operators.
