In modular representation theory of finite groups, various types of equivalences between blocks are important. In the present paper, the authors investigate the relationship between basic Morita equivalences and isotypies. A basic Morita equivalence between blocks \(b\) and \(b'\) of finite groups \(G\) and \(G'\), respectively, is given by a bimodule \(M\) whose source \(S\) is an endo-permutation module. The main result of the paper is a necessary and sufficient condition on \(M\) to induce an isotypy between \(b\) and \(b'\). This condition involves the character of \(S\) and multiplicities of indecomposable direct summands of the restricition of \(S\) to cyclic subgroups. A well-known example is provided by nilpotent blocks.
