    This paper is concerned with the following Kirchhoff type elliptic equation: \[ - \left(a\int_{\mathbb{R}^N} | \nabla u |^2 dx +1\right) \Delta u + \mu V (x) u = Q (x) | u |^{p - 2} u + \lambda f (x) u, \ x\in \mathbb{R}^N, \ u \in H^1 (\mathbb{R}^N), \] where \(N \geq 3\), \(2 < p < 2^\ast : = \frac{ 2 N}{ N - 2}\), \(a>0\), \( V(x)\geq 0\) is a function in \(\mathbb{R}^N\), \(Q(x) \in L^\infty(\mathbb{R}^N)\) and \(f(x) \in L^{N/2}(\mathbb{R}^N)\). Under some further conditions on \(V(x), Q(x), f(x)\) and for \(\mu>0\) large, the existence of two positive solutions for the above equation is proved in different ranges of the parameters \(p\), \(a\) and \(\lambda\). Moreover, the non-existence of positive solutions for certain ranges of \(a\) and \(\lambda\) is also discussed.
