A vector bundle \(E\) is called finite if there exist non-negative integers \(a_j\), \( 0 \leq j \leq N\), and \(b_k\), \(0 \leq k \leq M\), so that the vector bundle \( \sum_{j=0}^N (E^{\otimes j})^{\oplus a_j}\) is isomorphic to \( \sum_{k=0}^M (E^{\otimes k})^{\oplus b_k}\). This notion was introduced by \textit{M. V. Nori} [Compos. Math. 33, 29--41 (1976; Zbl 0337.14016)]. Prior results for algebraic vector bundles on projective manifolds, or holomorphic vector bundles on Kähler compact manifolds reveal that finiteness of such a structured vector bundle implies its finiteness, after an etale change of basis. See the articles by Nori [loc. cit.] and \textit{I. Biswas} et al. [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 128, No. 12, 3661--3669 (2000; Zbl 0977.53023)]. The main result of the article under review states that a holomorphic vector bundle over a compact complex manifold is finite if and only if its pull-back to some finite etale covering of the base is holomorphically trivializable. In addition, the bundle is finite if and only if it admits a flat holomorphic connection with finite monodromy.
