    Let \(\mathfrak{g}\) be a complex semisimple Lie algebra and \(H\subseteq \mathfrak{g}\) an Hessenberg space. Let \(X(x,H)\), \(x\in \mathfrak{g}_{\mathrm{reg}}\), be a regular Hessenberg variety in the flag variety associated with \(\mathfrak{g}\). A major result proved in this paper is that \(H^i(X(x,H),\mathcal {O}_{X(x,H)})=0\) for all \(i>0\). Hence the Picard group of \(X(x,H)\) is isomorphic to singular cohomology group \(H^2(X(x,H),\mathbb {Z})\). They prove that their classes in the K-theory of coherent sheaves on the homogeneous space \(G/B\) do not depend on \(x\). They define inside \((G/B)\times \mathfrak{g}_{\mathrm{reg}}\) the global version of the regular Hessenberg varieties and prove the reducedness of all fibers at \(x\in \mathfrak{g}_{\mathrm{reg}}\) of the projection onto \(\mathfrak{g}_{\mathrm{reg}}\).
