The smooth axisymmetric D-solutions \(\mathbf{u}\) (that means \(\int_{R^3} |\nabla\mathbf{u}|^2 < \infty\)) of the stationary Navier-Stokes equations are considered, subject to additional condition at infinity. The point is to study the optimal decay rates for the second-order derivatives of \(D\)-solutions. Some new estimates of the large distance behavior of \(\mathbf{u}\) and \((\nabla \times\mathbf{u})\) are given, by improving some techniques developed in the papers [\textit{B. Carrillo} et al., J. Funct. Anal. 279, No. 1, Article ID 108504, 49 p. (2020; Zbl 1437.35529)] and [\textit{S. Weng}, J. Math. Fluid Mech. 20, No. 1, 7--25 (2018; Zbl 1391.76118)]. A very interesting history of the problem is given in the first part. The authors prove a remarkable skill for complex calculations, by using the Brezis-Galleout inequality, some properties of singular integral operators (with Calderón-Zygmund-type kernels) and weighted energy estimates.
