    The authors analyze the existence and asymptotic behavior of a solution with an internal transition or boundary layer for a singularly perturbed second-order delay differential equation \[ \mu^2 y''=F(y(t),y(t-\sigma),t,\mu),\; 0 < t < T, \] satisfying the boundary conditions \[ y(t)=\varphi(t), \ -\sigma\leq t\leq 0,\ y(T)=y^T, \] where \(\mu>0\) is a small parameter, \(\sigma\) and \(T\) (\(\sigma < T < 2\sigma\)) are given positive numbers; \(F\) and \(\varphi\) are sufficiently smooth functions. Extending the Vasil'eva's method to more complicated problems, the authors construct a uniform asymptotic approximation with respect to the parameter \(\mu\) of the solutions \(y(t,\mu)\) satisfying \[ \lim\limits_{\mu\to0^+}y(t,\mu)= \left\lbrace \begin{array}{l} \alpha(t),\ 0 < t < \sigma \\ \beta(t), \ \sigma < t < T , \end{array} \right. \] where \(F(\alpha(t),\varphi(t-\sigma),t,0)\equiv0\) on the interval \([0,\sigma]\) and \(F(\beta(t),\alpha(t-\sigma),t,0)\equiv0\) on the interval \([\sigma, T].\)
