    The Duffing equation with a polynomial nonlinearity and a bounded external driving force is analyzed with application of the functional localization method. This method was proposed earlier by one of the authors for distinguishing domains containing all periodic trajectories in the phase space of an autonomous system of differential equations. Later this method was generalized for non-autonomous systems of differential equations for localization of invariant compact sets which include equilibrium positions, limit cycles, attractors, and repellers. In the present paper, the authors construct compact localizing sets for the Duffing system with polynomial nonlinearity and bounded external driving force. A localizing function is chosen in the form of polynomial with three unknown coefficients which are found from the condition that all invariant compact sets are bounded. All steps in calculating the localizing function are described in detail and the corresponding conditions of the existence of the compact localizing sets are obtained. The obtained theoretical results are illustrated by constructing the localizing sets for some chosen values of the system parameters.
